TITLE "NotanGestalt (1)"
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Rowland B. Wilson believed that strong design impacted finished art and could be achieved through knowledge and application of Notan (the Dark-Light Principle) and Gestalt (the “configuration” of the image on the page). In this first poster of hand-drawn “notes to himself” he illustrates—literally—the power of these two aspects. Covered here are: the priorities of Tone/Color/Reversed Negative; Notan considered as Local-tone, Light and Shade, or a Combination; and Tones. Of vital interest to animation and design professionals are the thumbnail “shortcuts” to depicting drama, mystery, atmosphere, weather, etc. Rowland created a series of “visual shorthand” posters that he kept constantly on display in his studio. Done in his distinctive style they stand as individual works of art as well as compendiums of invaluable information. These distillations of ideology, techniques, art principles, tips and tricks are sure to become classic reference in the art of “making it look easy”.
